Poms in Oz: Earl of Canberra considering England selection
Canberra winger Sandor Earl could be considered for English selection after an impressive spell with the Raiders.
The 22-year old is Australian born, but has part-English blood thanks to his Grandmother’s heritage, according to reports in Sydney.
Earl is yet to represent anyone at full international level, but he did play for New Zealand Maori against England in a warm up match ahead of the 2010 Four Nations.
Earl came through the ranks at Sydney Roosters, and made his debut in 2009 before he was offloaded to Penrith. He was released by the Panthers earlier this season, and since arriving at the Australian capital he has capitalised on his opportunity for regular first team rugby league.
Nicknamed Princess by his team mates because of his part-time work as a model, Earl is in no rush to stamp his eligibility onto the England camp.
He told a Sydney newspaper: “I’ve got to weigh it up against my chances of playing rep footy here.”
South Sydney overcame their rivals Sydney Roosters in a sensational finale at Allianz Stadium to win 24-22.
Brothers Sam, Luke and George Burgess lined up together once again, with George coming off the bench.
The Roosters were leading 22-12 with only two minutes to spare in the Monday night match, before Nathan Merritt and Adam Reynolds sunk Roosters hearts with two individual tries.
Reynolds’ try came on the back of the kick off, with a near length of the field move that sparked memories of the two sides’ round one match where the Roosters came from the same deficit to win the match.
Merritt’s final try was his second after an earlier effort, but Souths also scored tries from Everingham. The Roosters scored through Cordner, Leilua, Moga and Pearce.

Gareth Widdop and Melbourne Storm fell to their third successive defeat against the North Queensland Cowboys 20-16.
Widdop scored a try, backed up by team mates Matt Duffie and Anthony Quinn.
However the Cowboys had the edge on the day as Linnett scored two tries, and Brent Tate scored a single touch down as Johnathan Thurston’s four goal kicks proved crucial to Cooper Cronk’s two.
Chris Heighington scored a try in Wests Tigers’ 26-18 win over Penrith.
Heighington was one of five try scorers, and scored his try last, as Robbie Farah, Liam Fulton, Ben Murdoch-Masila and Chris Lawrence.
Penrith were in the lead 18-14 at one stage, with tries from Kingston, Mansour and Walsh, before the Tigers struck back to claim the two points.
James Graham’s Canterbury Bulldogs easily brushed past Parramatta Eels, as they remain in contention for the Minor Premiership.
Two tries from Josh Morris and Jonathan Wright were the bite to the Bulldogs bark as Canterbury took the game from the grasp of the Eels.
Ben Barba, Kristan Inu and Josh Reynolds also scored tries for the doggies. Ken Sio and Ryan Morgan replied for the Eels.
Brisbane Broncos, without the injured Jack Reed, defeated New Zealand Warriors 10-8.
