Poching hails Hull KR fans

Hull KR assistant coach Willie Poching is hopeful that the home fans can roar his team to victory when they face Leeds at the KC Lightstream Stadium on Sunday.

Ticket sales for the Robins’ campaign opener have topped 11,000, and the match could well be a sell-out by the time kick off comes around.

Poching believes that the Rovers fans are some of the most passionate in Super League, and could play a massive part in how the game against the Rhinos turns out.

“I’ve been really impressed with the Rovers fans during my time here so far,” said Poching.

“I’ve had the pleasure of meeting a few at various events but the support during the pre-season friendlies has really blown me away.

“The amount of noise they made at the derby and the way they supported the lads at Warrington was fantastic and we need them right behind us again this weekend.

“This is an intimidating ground for an opposition side to come to so we need to use that to our advantage and make the KC Lightstream Stadium a fortress this season.

“It’s down to us as a team to give the fans something to shout about but they have a big part to play too.

“I was fortunate enough as a player to play in front of the South Stand at Leeds and they really gave the players a big lift each week.

“We want the East Stand to have the same effect for us here and I’d love to see that stand packed out and making plenty of noise on Sunday.

“To sell-out three sides of the ground already is a great achievement for the club and I know the new lads are all really looking forward to experiencing it, myself included.

“Leeds are a quality side but we’re going into the game full of confidence and with a big crowd cheering us on, hopefully we can get the two points and get our season off to the perfect start.”
