Newly promoted Whitehaven have signed prop Paul Jackson from Castleford.

Jackson, 33, has made more than 250 appearances for the Tigers, Huddersfield and Wakefield, and will move to Cumbria for a stint in the Championship next season.

Whitehaven chief executive Barry Richardson said: “We were looking for a really experienced prop to add to our pack, and Paul’s been outstanding in Super League.

“We were made aware he was available and were keen to move quickly and sign him. We want to build a big, powerful pack and see him as a key part of that.

“Meeting him, he’s a really good lad and very well-respected throughout the game, a player who leads by example.”

Jackson was limited to eight games in 2012 due to injury, which he picked up in Castleford’s Challenge Cup semi-final defeat to Leeds in 2011.

Meanwhile, fellow front-rower Dave Houghton has agreed a new two-year deal at the Recreation Ground.
