Offiah trio commit to Harlequins

Three Harlequins Academy players represented by Martin Offiah recently signalled their commitment to the club by signing new contracts for 2010.

Max Edwards (18), Omari Caro (18) and Rob Thomas (19) are all represented by former Great Britain legend, Martin Offiah, who himself enjoyed several seasons at the London club.

The trio were all identified and nurtured by the Harlequins Youth Performance system and hope to follow in the footsteps of fellow Londoners Louis McCarthy-Scarsbrook and Tony Clubb, both of whom rose through the Harlequins ranks to play at Super League and international level.

Harlequins Rugby League head of youth performance, Phil Jones, said:

“This club is committed to investing in local talent and so I am very pleased we have secured the services of Max, Rob and Omari for next year.

“All three have made considerable advances during their time at the club: Rob played exclusively at reserve grade last year; Max made several reserve appearances and has a phenomenal scoring record; Omari was invited to open trials only last year and has taken to the game exceptionally well in his first season, averaging a try a game.

“I’m sure they’ll continue to progress towards their ambitions of playing Super League.”

Martin Offiah – who has recently released ’50 of the Best’, a new book detailing some of the greatest tries in rugby league history – said:

“Max, Rob and Omari are very promising young players and I’m confident that they will continue to flourish within the excellent Youth Performance programme at Harlequins.

“As a Londoner myself I am especially pleased that they have the opportunity to further their careers in the city we all love.”
