New York deal for George Elliott

York have handed a new two-year deal to winger George Elliott.

Elliott, 21, was a product of the Leeds academy before moving on to his hometown club, where he made his first grade debut last season.

Head Coach Gary Thornton said: “I am really pleased we’ve finally completed the signing of George Elliot resolved. George was a consistent performer last season in a struggling team, and should be better prepared this season for the rigors of the Championship. It’s always tough as a winger playing in a struggling side, as it is difficult to influence games.

“Playing outside quality experienced centres in James Ford and Jon Goddard will also help his game and hopefully we’ll see the best of George in 2013.”

Elliott scored 10 tries in 22 appearances for the Knights in 2012, in a season where they managed just one win and finished bottom of the Championship table.

He added: “I’m delighted to have signed with York again. After the disappointment of last year, I still got a lot out of the season and enjoyed playing there. It was a no brainer to extend my contract with York and I’m looking forward to the future.”
