Much more to come from Douglas

James Gordon

St Helens prop Luke Douglas says he is up for a big run of games as he continues to settle in at the Totally Wicked Stadium.

Douglas, 30, arrived in the close season from Gold Coast Titans and experienced a difficult start to life in the redvee, with Saints winning just one of their first four games.

That has led to some criticism of both Douglas and fellow import Ryan Morgan, who made a costly mistake in last week’s defeat at Salford.

But Douglas said: “I haven’t been outstanding, I’ve just been trying to do my job. It’s taking a bit of time, I suppose with new combinations and all that kind of stuff.

“I wouldn’t have minded a bit more of a pre-season. I’ve just got to keep improving each week, working with big Al (Walmsley) and Kyle (Amor) to get the team forward.

“I’m ready for a few big weeks. We’ve got a really important period coming up with the Easter weekend and the Huddersfield game this week, so I’m up for a big run and I think the boys are too.”

As with any import from Down Under, the Great British weather is always a challenge to overcome for new arrivals to these shores.

Douglas added: “It’s been a really good couple of days (sun). The wife’s a bit happier to get the little fella out in the park.

“We’re enjoying it. You see how beautiful the country is when the sun comes out and there’s flowers everywhere, so yeah we’re enjoying it.”
