Scotland have been dealt a blow for their World Cup hopes with the news that NRL duo Keith Galloway and James McManus will miss the tournament through injury.

Wests Tigers forward Galloway is out with a broken foot, while winger McManus broke his leg in the opening minutes of Newcastle’s play-off win over Canterbury.

Both players had scans last week and discovered they had breaks, informing Scotland coach Steve McCormack that they would not be fir for the World Cup.

Banff-born McManus scored 19 tries for Newcastle and played State of Origin for New South Wales.

Galloway, 28, picked up his knock in Wests final game of the season – he has previously won five caps for Australia.

McCormack will announce his World Cup squad on October 1.
