McConnachie ready to bring madness to England

Scotland forward Billy McConnachie is relishing the chance to play against England in Coventry at the weekend.

The Ipswich Jets prop played off the bench for the Bravehearts in their 54-12 defeat to Australia at Hull on Friday evening.

Although disappointed with the result, and aspects of his own performance, he is sure that Scotland will improve.

“I was a bit sluggish, but I’ll try and capitalise on [my aggression] next week,” he told Love Rugby League.

“We’ve got a good side, all new lads who are getting used to each other too and the way we play.

“Our next game will be a lot better, but everyone was happy with effort.

“It was just the nerves, and singing the anthem gave me goosebumps. It charged me up.

It was nervewracking playing against that quality of Australian side.

“To get points against them was a big thing for us.

“I had fun out there.”

McConnachie, who would be open to the idea of playing in the UK at some stage in his career, is also sure that the Scots’ fine team spirit will stand them in good stead against the English.

“It’s good to meet all the lads, though, they’re top blokes,” he added.

“Some of these lads go away and it’ll be good to see at the World Cup, mates for life, pretty much!

“We discussed England – they’re just names.

“Everyone’s got a heartbeat, so they’re just another bloke.”
