Whitehaven stalwart Scott McAvoy will return to the club as part of their coaching staff for next season.

McAvoy hung his boots up at the end of the 2017 season, after serving the Cumbrian club for over a decade.

He played his final game in Haven’s defeat to Cumbrian rivals Barrow Raiders in the League 1 play-off final in October.

The 31-year-old has a lot of experience in playing the game and will try to turn his experience into his coaching with the League 1 outfit. He will aim to bring through the next generation at the club.

And Whitehaven head coach Carl Forster is pleased to welcome McAvoy back to the club.

He said: “It’s great to have him on the coaching team.

“It was always important to keep someone like him in the club and around the playing squad.

“His experience will help the new young players and his knowledge of the club can only benefit everyone in the team.

“I’m really looking forward to working with him and getting fresh ideas on board.”
