Wigan head coach Matt Peet was impressed by his side’s winning performance against Hull KR at Robin Park.

In his first game in charge, the Warriors claimed a 24-10 victory over Hull KR in round one.

Jai Field featured at full-back and put in a man-of-the-match performance with a try.

Jake Bibby and Liam Marshall also both crossed for two tries in a solid start in the club’s new era under Peet.

Matt Peet pleased for his side in victory

“I’m pleased. I’m happy. I thought we played with plenty of spirit,” Peet told Sky Sports.

“I thought we showed signs of what we’ve been working on as far as the ball movement. We’ve certainly got a lot of improvement in us.

“I’m just pleased for the group. They’ve worked really hard.

“I thought there were times where we lacked a bit of accuracy in our defence. We gave some penalties away that we can’t afford to give away.

Matt Peet: I liked the fact we played as a group

“But when the game was flowing, I thought we looked cohesive. You could tell that we’ve been practising on certain things.

“I thought the lads played with a smile on their face which was good to see.”

When asked who impressed him by Jamie Jones-Buchanan, Peet responded: “I liked our right edge defence against a strong left edge for KR.

“I thought the whole pack worked hard. I thought Morgan Smithies came on and did what he did. He was really industrious.

“On the whole, I just liked the fact that we played as a group. I thought you could see the way we were celebrating wins and getting together. The fans got behind us and it was great to see.”
