London Skolars have announced the signing of utility half Doug Chirnside from Midlands Hurricanes for the 2022 season.

Chirnside joined what was then Coventry back in 2020, and made one appearance for the club. He played in their 28-8 defeat against Newcastle in March before the season was voided. However, he did not play a competitive match in 2021.

He went to the Student World Cup in 2017 with Scotland, and also played for them in 2018 and 2019.

The London-born utility, who can play in the halves or at hooker, will play in the capital in 2022. He also played amateur rugby league for Croydon Hurricanes and London Chargers.

Speaking to the club website, Chirnside said:  “I am really pleased to have signed for the Skolars and I am looking forward to getting stuck in this pre-season, get minutes under my belt and show what I can do in League One”.

Skolars General Manager Charles de Haan added:  “Doug is a great addition to the squad and fits the profile of the type of player that the club are aiming to recruit. He is London based and has the ability to be a key part of our team. I think he is one to watch in 2022.”
