Lockyer calls time on career

Brisbane and Australia legend Darren Lockyer has announced his intention to retire at the end of the current season.

Lockyer, 34, will bring the curtain down on a career that has spanned 336 NRL games, 33 Origins and 54 Test matches for Australia

The Broncos skipper said in a statement: “I’m still enjoying playing and excited about the Broncos for the rest of 2011 It will be hard to leave my team-mates at the Broncos but I know the timing is right.”

He added: “I’ve had a wonderful career as a rugby league player and I just feel it’s time to move on to the next chapter.”
