Leigh sign youngster

Cash-strapped Leigh Centurions have signed Junior Academy player Michael Jones on a two year deal.

The 17 year old forward comes from the Under 18 Squad, and was signed with financial help from Leigh Independent Supporters Association (L.I.S.A).

Jones' season was cut short in 2006, due to an ankle injury which kept him out for all except two games of the season. The Centurions will be looking to avoid a scrap at the bottom of the table, after virtually losing the majority of their squad to bigger teams, and will have to start again from scratch.

Academy Secretary Dan Boyle said: "Michael is a prop or second rower. Last year he was unfortunate to play just two games, as he suffered a bad injury".

"He is a former Leigh East player, and we have high hopes for him."

Jones' signing adds to the flurry of players added to the squad in the past week. The club announced that they had signed Mailangi Styles on Thursday from the Manly Sea Eagles, along with former Leigh old-boy Rob Smyth and 19 year-old full back Miles Greenwood from St Helens.
