Leeds to use union game as curtain raiser

Leeds Rhinos have confirmed that a game of rugby union will act as a curtain raiser for their Super 8s clash with Wigan on August 14.

Leeds Carnegie, with whom the Rhinos share the ground, will be playing a friendly against the Romanian national aide, which kicks off at 5.30pm.

The Rhinos will then take on the Warriors in the main event at 8pm.

Any fans of the rugby union side who stick around for the league game will get a preview of Kevin Sinfield in action, as he is moving to the 15-man code when he retires from top level rugby at the end of the Super League season.

The double header is part of Headingley’s celebration of 125 years of rugby at the stadium, which first hosted games before the Great Split of 1895.
