Leeds Rhinos coach Rohan Smith has revealed the Super League club have tied down off-contract duo James Bentley and David Fusitu’a to new deals.

Ireland international Bentley was out of contract at the end of the season – but he has now put pen to paper on a new two-year deal, keeping him at Headingley until at least the end of 2025.

The 25-year-old back-rower has made 39 appearances for Leeds since joining his boyhood club from St Helens ahead of the 2022 season.

Meanwhile, Tonga international Fusitu’a has signed a one-year contract extension with the club.

The 28-year-old winger has scored 12 tries in 28 appearances since his arrival in England ahead of last year.

Rohan Smith pleased to have international duo remain at Headingley beyond this season

Speaking in his weekly press conference ahead of Saturday’s clash with Wigan, Smith said: “James Bentley has agreed to terms for a further two years with us. We’re excited to have James around.

“He’s performances in the last little while particularly have sort of coincided with some work he’s done off the field and he’s really headed on the right track.

“He’s always wanted to play for the Rhinos. He competes hard and plays hard and the boys all like him and I think his best footy is still ahead of him.

“Fus has also agreed to a one-year extension, that’s exciting. He’s a very talented player and I know there would have been other options on the table for him and he chose to stay here.

“We’re excited to have him with us for another year and I think that works well for both parties.”

Leeds welcome Wigan to Headingley in Round 25 of Super League on Saturday, live on Sky Sports, 2:45pm kick-off.
