Leeds Rhinos 28-16 Harlequins

A two tries apiece from Danny McGuire and Brent Webb helped Leeds Rhinos to a 28-16 win over Harlequins at Headingley Carnegie Stadium, but only after the London side fought their way back into the game.

Quins had got off to an awful start that allowed the home side to open up a commanding 12-0 lead after just ten minutes, the tries from McGuire and Webb converted by Kevin Sinfield.

Another try from McGuire and two more goals from Sinfield followed and, despite a lone Harlequins touch down from Chris Melling, Leeds took a 20-4 lead in at the half-time interval.

The Rhinos extended that advantage after the restart with Webb’s second, Sinfield converting to make the score 26-4; but Quins fought their way back into the contest to ensure an interesting finish.

First Mark McLinden sent a long pass out for Mark Gafa to touch down, Henry Paul kicking the two points, and Paul Sykes followed suit, the conversion kicked by Rob Purdham.

However, this was not enough for the Londoners to take anything from the game, and Sinfield’s sixth goal was all that Leeds needed to complete the victory.
