League 1 round-up: Keighley cause upset, Doncaster smash records, Whitehaven claim derby win

What an entertaining round of action we have just witnessed in League 1.

Keighley Cougars caused an upset as they beat Oldham 15-8 at Cougar Park. Keighley’s Brendon Rawlins and Oldham’s Adam Jones were sin-binned for fighting. Wakefield Trinity duo Lukey Hooley and Lee Kershaw featured on loan for the Roughyeds.

Doncaster returned to winning ways with a record-breaking 102-6 victory over West Wales Raiders at the LD Nutrition Stadium, Featherstone. Liam Harris, Cameron Scott and Jez Litten all featured for the Dons on dual-registration from Hull FC. Litten bagged a hat-trick.

York City Knights kept pressure on league leaders Bradford Bulls after holding out for a 22-20 win over London Skolars in the capital. London Broncos star James Meadows featured on loan for the Skolars.

North Wales Crusaders edged past Newcastle Thunder 24-20 thanks to a late try from Kenny Baker. Crusaders’ Joe Bate was sin-binned early doors for a late tackle. Castleford Tigers’ Tuoyo Egodo featured on dual-registration for Newcastle, while Widnes Vikings duo Patrick Ah Van and Dan Norman played for Crusaders.

Coventry Bears collected their third win of the season with a 20-18 scoreline over Hemel Stags at Butts Park Arena. Jason Bass scored two for the Bears, while Ben Stead put in a man of the match display.

Ashley Gibson and George Flanagan scored two tries each to help Bradford Bulls beat Hunslet 36-16 at South Leeds Stadium. The Bulls have now won 12 games on the spin. James Green made his debut for Bradford after recently joining on loan from Castleford.

A touchline conversion at the death from Dan Abram sealed a 24-22 win for Whitehaven over local rivals Workington Town at Derwent Park. Scott Rooke scored two for Workington, while Ellis Gillam bagged a brace for Whitehaven. Tyler Dickinson played for Town on dual-registration from Huddersfield Giants and St Helens duo Josh Eaves and Liam Cooper played for Haven.

Bradford are ahead of York by two points at the top of the table. They face each other this weekend in a crunch clash.
