Keighley Cougars have won promotion to the Championship as League 1 champions following their 48-18 victory over Doncaster.

Rhys Lovegrove’s side are currently unbeaten in the League 1 competition, winning 18 from 18 so far this season. They have conceded just 154 points, while scoring 729.

The side ran in eight tries away at Doncaster on Sunday to secure the League 1 title.

In second place, North Wales Crusaders defeated Rochdale 28-24 to make it seven wins in a row for Anthony Murray’s side. The head coach has announced he will be leaving the Welsh side at the end of the current season.

Meanwhile, third-placed Swinton Lions claimed their 14th win of the season following a 38-12 score over Hunslet at Heywood Road.

Despite the defeat, Doncaster remain fourth place and in the play-offs in the table. Rochdale sit fifth and Hunslet take the final spot in the play-offs in sixth position.

Workington Town’s relegation back to League 1 has been confirmed. Chris Thorman’s side have claimed just one win in 24 in the 2022 Championship competition. On Sunday, they fell to a 22-16 home defeat to Dewsbury, who could mathematically still retain their status in the second division.

The Rams have seven points on the table with three wins and a draw, and are six points behind Whitehaven with three games remaining. Liam Finn’s side play Batley, Barrow and Sheffield in their remaining fixtures.

Whitehaven will face London, Workington and Newcastle Thunder in the race for survival.

Meanwhile, Leigh broke club records on Sunday with a 100-4 victory over York City Knights at the Leigh Sports Village. They sit five points above promotion-rivals Featherstone Rovers.
