Wigan prop Kaide Ellis returns from a five-match suspension

Kaide Ellis and Jordan Dezaria have both found out their suspensions following their tribunal hearings.

The pair received Grade E Strikes charges for throwing punches during the clash in Perpignan. They were both sent from the field in Catalans’ 28-0 win over Wigan on Saturday.

It was Matt Peet’s first defeat as Wigan boss. The Warriors spent 10-days in France for their clashes against the Dragons and Toulouse.

Kaide Ellis handed lengthy ban

Wigan prop Ellis has received a five-match ban. He will miss the club’s upcoming Super League fixtures with Castleford, Hull and St Helens. He will miss their Challenge Cup sixth round clash with Salford, and could miss the quarters if successful.

The Challenge Cup quarter finals are set to be played on the weekend of April 9-10.

He could return in their Easter Monday clash with Wakefield.

Dezaria’s charge was reduced from a Grade C from Grade E. He has received a three match suspension. The 25-year-old will miss fixtures against Hull KR, Featherstone (cup) and Huddersfield.

Matt Peet: The game has to protect itself and its players

Wigan head coach Matt Peet says he has no complaints for the two-match ban his forward Brad Singleton received in the Catalans defeat.

Singleton, 29, received a Grade B Late Hit on Passer following his side’s first defeat of the season.

The prop will miss the upcoming clash with Castleford on Thursday night. He will also miss their Challenge Cup sixth round clash with Salford.

He said: “We can see the way the game is going. There’s certainly no malice (in Singleton’s case).

“You’ve got to ask yourself in the wet conditions, at that speed, I think Brad would have needed to pretty much disappear. But we get it.

“We understand that the game has to protect itself and its players.

“There was certainly no malice. Mitchell Pearce said straight away it was sweet.

“I don’t think anyone will get hurt from that contact but I also appreciate the job that the RFL have got in looking after the players in the short-term and the long-term.”
