Hull centre Josh Griffin has praised new signing Darnell McIntosh, saying he gives the Black and Whites a different edge.

McIntosh signed for Hull from Huddersfield ahead of the 2022 season. His last game for the Giants was against Hull, in a 17-10 defeat before picking up an Achilles injury.

The pair had been training together, with Griffin recovering from a similar injury himself.

On McIntosh, Griffin said: “I’ve got to know Darnell quite well.  We’ve had similar injuries so we’ve spent a lot of time together.

“You have seen over the last couple years we’ve probably gone from two prop forwards on the wing in Mahe and Bureta to you know Swifty (Adam Swift) and Darnell.

“We’ve actually got some genuine speed and some different dimensions and a bit different attacking threats. So yeah, look, he looks really well as well Darnell.”

NRL pair also come in for praise from Griffin

Also in the off-season, Hull completed the signings of Kane Evans and Joe Lovodua from the NRL. Griffin also believes these two will have a big impact on the side.

However, Evans will miss the start of the season, alongside Manu Ma’u and Scott Taylor for the Black and Whites. He picked up a pectoral injury in their pre-season match against London at Loughborough University.

Griffin added: “I didn’t know much about either of them before they come over,I don’t watch much of the NRL.

“But now they’ve added to our team. Unfortunately, obviously Kane’s picked up the injury as he would have been it would have been a good impact.

“Joey’s bought different competition and a different voice again, he’s very loud. Very competitive.”
