Jordan Tansey joins Workington

Workington Town have signed former Super League star Jordan Tansey for the 2018 season.

The 31-year-old was on trial with Championship side Sheffield Eagles earlier this year but the two parties failed to agree terms.

Tansey made his debut for Town in their third-round Challenge Cup win at Hunslet Club Parkside on Saturday.

The full-back, wing or centre started his career at Leeds Rhinos before making seven NRL appearances for Sydney Roosters. He then played for Hull FC, Crusaders, York City Knights, Castleford Tigers and Wakefield Trinity.

And Town chairman Garry Mounsey is delighted to welcome Tansey to Derwent Park.

He said: “Jordan adds experience and skill to an already strong squad.

“We are in a position now where we have a fantastic mix of local Cumbrian talent and also of youth and experience in key areas.

“At times last year we were thin in our available squad and we suffered in matches because of it.

“This year we want to make sure we have a squad that can withstand injury and knocks as we look to challenge in the league.”
