Jon Wilkin backing Toulouse to avoid relegation

Former Super League winner and current Sky Sports pundit Jon Wilkin has backed Toulouse to avoid Super League relegation this season.

Sylvain Houles’ side currently sit above Wakefield in the table on points difference – and Wilkin believes the side will retain their Super League status.

Wakefield fell to the bottom of the table following their 15-10 defeat away to Hull KR, while Toulouse claimed their fifth win of the season with a 20-6 score over Leeds during Round 19.

Speaking to reporter Jenna Brooks on Sky Sports, Wilkin said: “I just think Toulouse have got another couple of wins in them this year.

“I just can’t see that from Wakefield.

“Look, I hope I’m wrong and Wakefield do well. It’s not that I’m wishing Wakefield down.

“But on the balance of probability and as a pundit, I’ve got to say I believe Toulouse will stay up.

“I just think they’ve got a chance to win a couple of games in the next few weeks and it’ll be huge for them to do that. If they don’t, then it’s all on.”

Remaining fixtures

Next up, Toulouse host Salford Red Devils on Saturday while Wakefield face St Helens.

Willie Poching’s side then play Castleford, Catalans, Wigan, Hull, Hull KR, Huddersfield and the reigning champions once again in their remaining fixtures.

Toulouse have two more home games after Saturday, hosting Hull and Catalans. They will also travel to Hull KR, Warrington, Wigan, Hull and St Helens.

Both sides have claimed five wins so far this season, only separated by points difference. Trinity’s last victory came in June against Warrington, while Toulouse have won three on the bounce.
