John Duffy remaining upbeat despite eighth successive league defeat

Leigh coach John Duffy says his side must remain upbeat, despite their winless start to the new Super League season continuing with a heavy defeat away at Hull KR.

Winger Ryan Hall scored a hat-trick for the Robins, with Kane Linnett also crossing twice in their 40-16 victory at Craven Park.

Sunday’s result means the Centurions are the only side in the division without a league win so far in 2021.

Duffy admits that his players paid the price for their own mistakes, having levelled the scores at 12-12 midway through the first half.

“It was a bit scrappy for a start and then we got ourselves into it,” he said. “We had a real good chat at half-time but penalties cost us.

“We’ve done it tough the last couple of days. There have been issues so it’s not the best prep, and a couple of senior boys were missing.

“[It was] the same things again as there have been in the first few weeks. I feel for the players, I’ve been there. They’re doing it really tough at the minute.”
