Joe Burgess set for Salford debut

Former Wigan winger Joe Burgess is set to make his debut for Salford in their Super League clash with Hull KR on Friday.

Burgess, 26, was a close season signing from Wigan but suffered an ankle injury in pre-season training that ruled him out for three months.

His inclusion is a welcome boost for Red Devils coach Richard Marshall, who has lost experienced duo Kallum Watkins (knee) and Kevin Brown (ankle) to injury for the next few months.

Outside back Krisnan Inu is also sidelined, having been suspended for two months for his controversial social media posts in reference to Jarryd Hayne’s recent rape trial.

Salford have added young St Helens centre Ben Davies on loan, after allowing forward Darcy Lussick to join Featherstone on a similar basis.

Marshall said: “We need to perform really well and enjoy ourselves. We’ve had a few tough lessons over the last few weeks.

Salford, who have won just one match all season, were thumped 62-18 at home by Warrington in their last outing, while Rovers beat Leigh 40-16 a fortnight ago.

The game at Craven Park will be televised live on Sky Sports, after the originally scheduled game between Leeds and St Helens was postponed due to coronavirus.
