Jesse Ramien is set to leave Newcastle Knights and he could finish the year in Super League, according to reports Down Under.

The 22-year-old centre has been granted permission by the Knights to talk to other clubs.

He is not expected to play for Newcastle again and is unlikely to be around training.

Ramien could join a Super League club for the rest of the season, according to NRL.com. The Australian would need to act quickly if he wants a move to Super League though, with the UK transfer deadline being next Friday.

Newcastle released a statement on his future, it read: “The Newcastle Knights have granted Jesse Ramien permission to negotiate with other clubs.

“The decision this week to drop Ramien from the NRL side prompted discussions for the centre to find a new home.

“These talks were mutual and the Knights have given Ramien’s management approval to negotiate.

“The Knights wish him all the best.”

Ramien has made 38 first-grade appearances in the NRL for Cronulla Sharks and Newcastle, scoring 14 tries.
