Newcastle enforcer Jeremy Smith will fight his dangerous contact charge given to him by the NRL judiciary.

Kiwi back-rower Smith was hit with a grade 3 charge for a tackle on Penrith forward Matt Robinson during the Knights’ 8-6 victory over the Panthers at Hunter Stadium on Saturday.

If found guilty, Smith could miss up to six weeks.

Meanwhile injured playmaker Jarrod Mullen has undergone minor knee surgery and could be fit for the round seven clash with Gold Coast as could winger Dane Gagai, who has recovered from a knee problem.

Veteran hooker Danny Buderus however could miss between six and eight weeks after surgery on his back.
