New Salford signing to make debut as Huddersfield start Jake Connor

Andrew Dixon is set to make his second debut for Salford against a Huddersfield side who are starting Jake Connor at the AJ Bell Stadium.

Dixon joined returned to the Red Devils in the off-season on a two-year deal following Toulouse’s relegation from Super League last season.

The 33-year-old forward has yet to feature for Salford this season due to injury, but he has been named on the bench in Paul Rowley’s matchday 17 to take on Huddersfield at home on Sunday afternoon.

Dixon played for Salford between 2013-14, making 37 appearances across the two seasons.

Meanwhile, Scotland international Ben Hellewell comes in for his first appearance of the season. He made his loan move from Championship side Featherstone permanent at the end of last year.

Chris Atkin will start at hooker for Salford this afternoon in the absence of Andy Ackers and Amir Bourouh; both of whom are both sidelined through injury.

Matty Costello also returns for Salford with Samoa international Tim Lafai facing a lengthy spell on the sidelines.

Jake Connor starts for Huddersfield

As for the Giants, coach Ian Watson has made two changes to his side that lost narrowly to champions St Helens last time out.

Connor, who made his injury comeback from the bench against Saints, has been named to start in the halves alongside Olly Russell.

The two changes sees utility back Tui Lolohea and prop Matty English return. They replace Innes Senior and Harvey Livett in Watson’s matchday 17.

Sam Halsall, who joined the Giants from Wigan in the off-season, retains his place in the starting 13, being named on the wing.

Huddersfield: Pryce; Golding, Marsters, Naiqama, Halsall; Connor, Russell; Hill, Peats, English, McQueen, Rushton, Yates. Subs: Lolohea, Ikahihifo, Trout, Ashworth. 18th man: Cudjoe.
