Idris to debut for Titans

High profile Gold Coast recruit Jamal Idris is set to make his debut this weekend, after being named in the squad for Saturday’s trial against Brisbane.

Idris, who signed for a reputed $2.5 million from Canterbury last year, will appear alongside another debutant, centre Beau Champion.

“I can’t wait to run out in a blue jersey and hopefully we can form some connections in this game coming up,’’ said the 21-year-old Idris.

“Trials are meant to be a test to see how you’re going to go and trying to get things right. It should be a really good game and hopefully people get out there to see what’s in store for the team.’’

Coach John Cartwright is hoping to put right a nightmare season in 2011 which saw the Titans collect the wooden spoon.

“It’s a home game for us and it’s very important for us. We’ve got our local supporters at our feeder club at Burleigh and we want to put in a good performance,’’ said Cartwright.

“We play the Cowboys in our first competition game and also in our last trial match so we probably don’t want to give away a hell of a lot there.

“That match is probably more about getting miles in their legs but this weekend we want to try some things that we’ve been working on and build on some combinations.’’

Forward Ashley Harrison and  hooker Matt Srama will miss the match with injury.
