Hunslet raid Rams for Fox

Hunslet have fought off competition from Championship rivals Featherstone to sign Matthew Fox from Dewsbury.

Fox, 21, signs a one-year deal with the Hawks, who have paid an undisclosed fee to the Rams for the former Wakefield centre.

Director of rugby Darren Williams said: “It’s common knowledge we have been looking for some centre cover since Wayne McHugh left the club so were thrilled to have acquired Matthew’s services, he first came under our radar whilst playing under Tony Drury for Wakefield senior academy and impressed in a loan spell at Dewsbury towards the end of last season before signing a permanent deal with them after some strong displays for his country.”

The move for the Irish international has been funded by the Hunslet Squad Builder (HISSA) and Fox is expected to make his debut against Keighley in a pre-season friendly next weekend.

Fox said: “I would like to thank Hunslet for the opportunity to continue my playing career, living in Middleton it’s great to have the chance to play for my local team and it will be good to put the shirt on, my aim now is to cement my place in the side.”
