Hull KR has stood down Chris Chester with immediate effect.

Assistant coach Willie Poching will take charge of first team affairs on Friday evening when the club face St Helens at the KC Lightstream Stadium.

The club said in a statement: “The sole focus of everybody at the club at this time in on Friday’s game and securing two much needed points, and any further comment on the situation, future plans and expectations will follow after the weekend.”

Chester was appointed Hull KR coach at the end of 2014 after the departure of Craig Sandercock.

The 37-year ol led the Robins to the Challenge Cup final where they were smashed 50-0 by Leeds. This season Hull KR has had two losses and one draw from three games.

Chester had a win rate of 52%, with 16 wins and 15 defeats from 31 games.
