Hull KR looking for consistency

Hull KR will be hoping to repeat their recent Challenge Cup win over Salford to earn some much-needed Super League points this weekend.

It’s the first game on Sunday at the Magic Weekend at Anfield, with the Robins out to end a five-game losing streak in the league.

Their only win in their last six games came in their Challenge Cup visit to Salford.

They last tasted success in Super League when they beat fellow strugglers Leeds 45-26 at the start of April.

Captain Joel Tomkins said: “We’ve been in a lot of tight contests this season and come out on the wrong side, so that’s something we need to address.

“Although we are right at the bottom of the table at the minute, we’re not too far away. Three or four good wins and we could be up there in sixth or seventh.

“That’s our goal now. We’re into the second half of the season and we need to be turning those close games around and getting the wins.”

Hull KR lost 24-22 at home to Salford earlier in the season, and also went down by two points against Catalans back in March.

They were beaten 30-22 by Huddersfield last week, and suffered a four-point loss against Leeds at the end of April.

Tomkins added: “When we compete and keep hold of the ball and give ourselves a fair share of possession, we’re a dangerous team.

“But when we’re making errors and giving penalties away and we’re on the back foot, we don’t handle that so well.

“We’ve got to concentrate on completing and keeping hold of the ball, and if we can do that, and we have enough energy, we’re quite a dangerous team for anybody.

“We’ve got to try and get those little things right and hopefully that’ll help turn things around and we will start getting on the right side of the close games.”
