Huddersfield swoop for Brett Ferres

Huddersfield have beaten today’s transfer deadline to sign Castleford back-rower Brett Ferres.

Ferres, 26, was expected to leave the Tigers at the end of the season, but joins the Giants with immediate effect on a three-and-a-half year deal.

Giants Managing Director Richard Thewlis said: “Brett has been a player admired by our club for a long time and indeed I know from speaking to many coaches how highly he is rated so we are simply delighted to have him here.

Paul Anderson was extremely keen to make this move happen prior to deadline and I must thank the Castleford club for their assistance over the past few days in allowing this deal to occur prior to Brett coming out of contract with them in November.”

Ferres goes straight in to the Huddersfield squad for the weekend’s game against Wakefield.

One man not in the 19-man squad is Widnes-bound stand-off Kevin Brown, who has also been relieved of the club captaincy.
