Huddersfield Giants will manage rising star full-back Will Pryce the right way this season, according to coach Ian Watson.

The Giants kick-off their Super League campaign with a trip to newcomers Toulouse on Saturday week. Watson says he has already decided on his full-back for their trip to the south of France.

Teenager Will Pryce is expected to get the nod at full-back, but Watson will not over-play the England Knights international in his first full season in Super League.

Watson said: “He’s got unbelievable talent and it’s up us to manage that the right way.

“He’s a young kid and playing a full season is going to be a big ask for him.

“He’s been brought up well so he is grounded. He is willing to learn and is real keen.”

Watson endured his first season as Huddersfield coach last season. The Giants finished ninth in Super League in a below-par season for the club.

Former Salford boss Watson admitted the job at Huddersfield is bigger than he initially anticipated. He is now aiming to take the Giants to the play-offs.

He added: “I’d probably say the job is bigger than I anticipated. There were certain issues we had to kind of tidy up, things you don’t see from the outside.

“That was last year though, this year is good, the group of players we’ve got this year is outstanding.

“I feel we are miles in front of where we were last year, now we’ve got to take that out on to the field.

“The minimum target is the play-offs and we’ll see where we can go from there.”
