The Love Rugby League Podcast with Tyrone McCarthy

The Love Rugby League Podcast has launched for 2022 with a brand new look, with the recently retired Tyrone McCarthy being our first guest.

Editors James Gordon and Drew Darbyshire take a quick look over the opening weekend of the Championship and the second round of the Challenge Cup. The pair also discuss the issues surrounding Toulouse ahead of the Super League opener.

Ireland legend McCarthy is the guest for the first episode. He reflects on his career, retirement and his next steps within the game.

McCarthy made more than 250 appearances during his 13-year playing career. He started his career with hometown club Warrington before enjoying spells in Australia with Northern Pride and St George Illawarra Dragons.

The 32-year-old spent time in Super League with Hull KR, Salford and Leigh before hanging up his boots at the end of the 2021 season.

McCarthy was born and raised in Warrington but his family hailed from Cork in Ireland. He won 19 caps for Ireland and played for the Wolfhounds in two World Cups.

He talks to Drew and Josh McAllister about his playing days, his highs and lows, concussion injuries and his new coaching roles with Warrington Wolves and Woolston Rovers.
