Huddersfield looking at Leeds prop

Huddersfield coach Nathan Brown is looking into the possibility of signing Leeds prop Luke Ambler on loan.

The Giants, who suffered a 32-22 defeat against Castleford at the weekend, are short on forwards due to injury, while new signing Tony Tonks is banned for the season opener against Wigan. David Fa’alogo (back), Luke O’Donnell (wrist), Larne Patrick (wrist) and Dave Orwell (ankle) have all been ruled out.

Brown is looking at Ambler, 22, who spent last season on loan at Harlequins, to provide cover.

Ironically, Ambler’s first team chances at Headingley have been further hampered by the arrival of ex-Giants prop Darrell Griffin, who opted to leave the Galpharm Stadium in the close season.

Huddersfield go to Wigan for Sean O’Loughlin‘s testimonial on Thursday, and Brown will be looking for improvements following the Castleford defeat.

He said: “Overall there were some positives to take from the contest, but we didn’t come here expecting to be firing on all cylinders.

“I will certainly be looking for improvements at Wigan, especially on our defence where we showed we still have work to do.

“There were times in the game when we showed good signs on attack, but we also know we still have matters to address.”
