Olly Russell and Theo Fages in action for Huddersfield Giants

Huddersfield Giants coach Ian Watson has provided a positive injury update on half-backs Olly Russell and Theo Fages ahead of Saturday’s trip to Perpignan.

The Giants travel to the south of France this week to take on league leaders Catalans Dragons on Saturday night.

Fages has been sidelined recently with a quad injury, whilst fellow half-back Olly Russell limped off the field in last week’s defeat at Wigan.

But speaking in his weekly press conference on Thursday, Watson confirmed that Russell and Fages will travel with the squad to Perpignan this week.

“He looks alright, he’s trained with us so he’s fine,” Watson said of Russell.

“It’s not as bad as we first thought, it looked pretty bad when he first did it.

“In the changing rooms afterwards, he was a little bit more confident about it going forward, I think it was more of the shock of the impact but he’s come through alright so he’s all good.

“When he went down it didn’t look great at first but he has recovered pretty well and done all the right things to credit to him for getting himself right.

“Theo will be named in the squad. Let’s get to France and see where we are there.”

Huddersfield Giants back in doubt for Catalans Dragons clash

Watson also revealed that Huddersfield are likely to lose an outside-back for the Catalans game, but he didn’t clarify who in Wednesday’s press conference.

He added: “We’re probably going to lose someone again with a little bit of an injury in the outside-backs but we will probably just wait until later on today to clarify that.

“With us travelling, we’ve got to do it this afternoon to make sure everything is right but at the moment we may lose one of the outside-backs and young Fenton (Rogers) as well who has obviously got to do his two-game ban that he picked up whilst at Bradford.”

The Giants face the Dragons at the Stade Gilbert Brutus on Saturday night, 6pm kick-off.
