Huddersfield Giants have confirmed that back-rower Josh Jones has left the club by mutual consent.

The 30-year-old made 51 appearances for the John Smith’s Stadium outfit, scoring nine tries, after joining ahead of the 2021 Super League season from Hull.

Jones had been suffering with concussion-related issues throughout the current campaign, with his last appearance for the club coming in Round Five against Wigan. He also featured against Warrington, Wakefield and Castleford this season in Super League.

Huddersfield managing director Richard Thewlis paid tribute to Jones. He said: “This is a sad day for both the club and Josh as it brings to an end our partnership which had in previous seasons brought great success.

“The loss for us for the vast majority of the year of a key strike back-rower has proven a blow to our hopes and has emphasized the importance that a fully fit and firing Josh Jones brings to any team. We wish him every success in the future.”

Former Saints man Jones has made 236 Super League career appearances to date, and represented Great Britain during the revived tour Down Under in 2019 under Wayne Bennett, making his test debut against Tonga.

He featured for the Giants in the 2022 Challenge Cup final defeat to Wigan Warriors at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
