Huby backs return of promotion and relegation

Castleford prop Craig Huby has backed plans to bring promotion and relegation back to Super League.

Huby, 26, was part of the Tigers side that was relegated in 2004 and 2006, before bouncing back at the first attempt by winning the National League 1 Grand Final both times.

He said: “Promotion and relegation is a good thing I’ve been involved in a few and if you finish bottom its only right that you give the team who finishes top of the lower league a chance to prove themselves in the Super League.”

Huby is currently enjoying his testimonial year at Castleford, having made his debut for the club in 2003 aged just 16.

The RFL’s Policy Review is looking at changing the structure of the game, with three options presented last week to change Super League.

The plans include a return of promotion and relegated, which was scrapped after the 2007 season in favour of the licensing system.
