Henderson named in England squad

Catalan hooker Ian Henderson is a shock new face in the England Elite Training squad, announced today by Steve McNamara.

Henderson, 28, was born in Torquay but has played representative rugby league for Scotland, playing alongside brothers Andrew and Kevin at the 2008 World Cup.

Another former Scotland international, Danny Brough, is named in the squad, as is New Zealand-born Rangi Chase, who keeps his place in the side having featured in the Four Nations at the back end of last season.

Wigan’s Gareth Hock returns to the international set up for the first time since serving a two-year drugs ban, and he is joined by no fewer than five Wigan team-mates, including Josh Charnley, Michael McIlorum and Lee Mossop.

Super League champions Leeds have 10 players in the squad, there are four players from Warrington and three from St Helens.

As well as Brough, Huddersfield are represented by Eorl Crabtree and Leroy Cudjoe, while Hull and Hull KR are the other two Super League clubs with players in the squad.

In total, there are eight uncapped players in the 32-man squad, while McNamara has also named a young and exciting England Knights squad.
