Hemel Stags will start their preparation for their inaugural campaign in Championship 1 with a friendly game against Super League outfit London Broncos U19s.

This game comes as the Stags continue their hard work and preparation toward Championship 1 and will be a hard test for the new professional club.

Troy Perkins, Head Coach, commented on the fixture: “Its our first hit out for the season. It’s a great opportunity for me to look at some of the players who have been doing pre-season who I haven’t seen play much before. London Broncos will offer decent opposition as they will be well drilled and very fit.”

A famous Stag may be returning to Pennine Way but will be pull on a London Broncos jersey instead. Dan Sarginson, on route back from injury, is likely to take to the field for the London Broncos. Dan played his junior rugby at Hemel Stags and has now gone on to represent London Broncos in the Super League and most recently has played for the England Knights team. Troy Perkins commented: “It’s great that Dan will come back to Hemel where he played his junior rugby. I think it will also add more interest to the fixture as a lot of Hemel and other London based Rugby League supporters will want to see him play his old club.”

Everyone who comes to the game who hasn’t yet bought a season ticket will get a £5 discount off a season ticket in the Match Day programme. Tom Williams said, “We want all our regular supporters to be season ticket holders and benefit from the great discounts that can be gained by buying one. We are a supporter owned club and we want our loyal supporters to benefit from being able to support us in an affordable way.”

With the season fast approaching it is a once in a lifetime chance to see Hemel Stags‘ first ever game against London Broncos in their current form. Tom Williams, Community Manager, wants to see the London Rugby League community at the club on the 27th January. He said, “It will be a different experience to the Capital Challenge but it will be a once in a lifetime opportunity to see Hemel Stags play our first ever pre-season game preparing for our first ever season in the professional ranks of the game. Entry is only £6 so come along and watch what is set to be an historic match of Rugby League.”
