Harrison calls for Barrow support
Barrow star Liam Harrison has called on the Raiders faithful to make the journey down the M6 to The Halliwell Jones Stadium in their droves for Sunday’s Championship One Play-off Final against Doncaster.
Barrow go into the match, which features as part of a six-hour Rugby League extravaganza on Premier Sports Extra, having lost out to Doncaster by just a single point in the race for the Championship One League Leaders’ Shield and Harrison says that disappointment is spurring the side on.
“I’m massively looking forward to the occasion,” said Harrison. “I think it promises to be a great game and I have no doubt that it will be close – we beat them a few weeks ago and we’re full of confidence at the moment, but games between us are always very tight.
“Winning the final would make up for our disappointment in the league this season. We let ourselves down and lost a few games that we should have won and I think we feel as though we under achieved. This week we have the opportunity to make amends for that and take something away from the season in front of our fans.
“Playing at Craven Park week in, week out is great but going to a venue like the The Halliwell Jones Stadium is always special. The last time we were there we had thousands of fans follow us so hopefully we can get something similar again this year because that atmosphere was truly special.
“When there are 2-3,00 people wearing your shirt and cheering for you it really does spur you on and give you a great boost and we’d love nothing more than to win in front of a big crowd.”
After beating Doncaster two weeks ago to secure a place in the final, Barrow have enjoyed the luxury of a week off from competition but the tough-running forward says they can’t underestimate Doncaster ahead of Sunday’s title decider.
“We’ve had a week off to recover but they’re also going into the game off a win,” he said. “So we’ve both seen benefits from the last week. We will both be going out there to win so it will be a great game.
“We’ve both secured promotion to the Championship and that was our biggest target this season. We’re under no illusions that next season will be a huge step up but for us but to come this far in the season and leave empty handed would be a bitter disappointment so we’re going to be giving everything on Sunday to end on a high.
“I’m sure Doncaster will be equally motivated so it could be another classic.”
