Harlequins 24-16 Salford

Harlequins posted a 24-16 win over Salford City Reds in the first game of the Magic Weekend at Murrayfield in Edinburgh.

The first-half was an even-handed affair, but Quins took control of the game after the interval.

The win takes the London side up to fourth in the engage Super League table, although they may be overtaken by Wakefield when they play Bradford at 17:00.

The game began quickly with Luke Williamson and Stefan Ratchford swapping tries inside the first ten minutes, conversions coming from John Wilshere and Rob Purdham.

The Reds went into a 10-6 lead on fifteen minutes, Richard Myler taking advantage of Salford possession to get over the line.

The Quins, however, went into a two-point lead when, Tony Clubb using strength and agility to touch down before Purdham tagged on a timely conversion.

It took until the hour mark for the first score of the second half, a Salford errors allowing Quins the possession for David Howell to get over the line, Purdham converting.

Robbie Paul saw a touch down disallowed when Clubb pushed him into touch, and instead Luke Dorn scored for the Quins, Purdham’s goal making the score 24-10.

Ratchford grabbed a late try, Wilshere converting, but there wasn’t enough time left for the Reds to take anything from the game.
