Halifax battle on

Halifax are likely to include Frank Watene after he avoided suspension at a midweek RFL Disciplinary Committee meeting.

Coach Matt Calland has warned his side that they cannot afford last week’s Northern Rail Cup final defeat ruin their efforts in the Co-operative Championship.

Calland said: “We need to win virtually all our remaining league games, so we don’t have time to dwell on it.”

Halifax have won three of their last four league games, beating Hunslet Hawks, Dewsbury Rams and Barrow Raiders while only falling to defeat against Batley.

York coach Dave Woods is without Matt Barron (foot) as he attempts to produce a game-plan capable of taking advantage of what he sees as Halifax inconsistency.

Woods said: “They’re playing really well one week but not so well the next, and they had a tough game last weekend that they would have been putting everything into.

“We’ll have to come out hard and fast at them and catch them off guard a bit.”
