A local schoolboy got the surprise of his life last night when one of Castleford Tigers’ star players knocked on his door to present him with a mascot place at the Betfred Super League Grand Final.

Nine-year-old superfan Sonny Hetherington entered a Rugby AM competition to win the money-can’t-buy prize courtesy of Batchelors Peas, Official Partner of the Betfred Super League 2017.

Greeted by Castleford winger Greg Eden, the much-loved Batchelors mascot, Can of Steel and the TV crew from Rugby AM, Sonny couldn’t believe his eyes.

Mum Gemma said: “We’re all so excited to see Sonny walk out on pitch at Old Trafford – it’s a dream come true for him. A huge thank you to Batchelors Peas for making it happen!”

The biggest night in Super League, the Betfred Super League Grand Final takes place at the Theatre of Dreams, Old Trafford on Saturday 7 October.

Headed up by Can of Steel, the Batchelors Peas event team will be on hand in the Fan Zone throughout the afternoon with games, challenges and more chances to win.

Dean Towey, Marketing Director for Princes (which manufactures Batchelors Peas), commented: “We’ve had a fantastic time with fans of all teams since the start of the season, on matchdays and through our action-packed competitions programme.

“As Official Partner of the Betfred Super League, it’s great to get involved in the community with the support of the RFL, the players and Rugby AM.”
