Giants attack pleases Stone

Huddersfield Giants coach Rick Stone was very pleased with the way his team attacked in their 16-all draw with Wigan at the DW Stadium at the weekend.

Stone picked Lee Gaskell to partner Danny Brough in the halves, with youngster Darnell McIntosh playing at full back.

The Giants coach felt that the change worked well for both players.

“We attacked a bit better than last week, Gaskell played in the halves today and I think we had a little bit more inventiveness and a bit more strike,” Stone told his club’s official website.

“We challenged Wigan more offensively, we were pretty tidy in the first half, got a little sloppy in the second half, we just needed a few lads to keep their heads a little bit and we need to manage that last bit a bit better.

“A point against the current champions is obviously a good thing but with circumstances today with their particular team and the injuries they got at the start of the game there was a good opportunity to take the full two points and we have got to learn to manage that better and if we do and keep that resolve up then we are heading in the right direction.

“It’s always a tough decision to put Lee in at the halves, he has obviously been playing full-back and he wasn’t great at full-back last week against Leigh and so we decided to give him a chance in the halves with Broughy this week.

“I thought he did okay it was his first chance and he could probably improve a little bit but I was really happy with Darnell, for a young full-back who is still yet to turn 20, he showed some good composure and a lot of courage.”
