Whitehaven have confirmed the signing of Germany half-back Brad Billsborough from St Helens for the 2018 season.

The youngster, who can play at half-back or hooker, joins the club from Saints’ Academy.

He was part of the Under-19s’ 2016 unbeaten title winning season and played a big role for the Under-19s and Reserves in 2017 as well, playing 21 games overall, scoring one try and kicking 40 goals.

Billsborough has also done a lot of work with Saints’ Community Foundation and was a junior player at Newton Storm.

The highly-rated playmaker recently made his international debut for Germany against the Wales Dragonhearts. He qualifies to represent Germany through his mother, who was born in the country.

He impressed on his debut as he crossed the whitewash and kicked five goals in Germany’s 38-34 victory as well as picking up the man of the match award.

And he admitted that he is excited to play more first team rugby league next season in League 1.

Billsborough said: “I’m made up with signing for Whitehaven, I’m looking forward to the challenge.

“I’ve known Carl (Forster) for ages through St Helens. He’s a great bloke and is doing well with Haven. I am looking forward to paying him back for the faith he’s put in me.”

And Haven head coach Carl Forster is happy to have Billsborough on board.

He said: “I’m made up to bring Brad in.

“He’s come from a great set up at Saints and they speak really well of him.

“He’s cleaver and very vocal for a young lad and will add great depth in key positions in our halves and hooker role.”
