Gene plotting return to rugby league

Former Hull KR and Bradford player Stanley Gene is keen to make a return to the world of rugby league coaching, after leaving Newcastle Thunder in September.

The former Papua New Guinea international would also consider making a return to his homeland in search of a job.

“Every day you learn something new in rugby league and there is more I need to learn,” Gene told the Hull Daily Mail.

“I would consider being an assistant coach. And at any level too. I’m always ready to coach.

“Sport is taking off in PNG with big investment in stadiums etc.

“I have options, but family comes first. I had an option (to go back to PNG) and if the time was different I would have taken it.

“Pre-season has started for some teams and most clubs have their coaching staff in place.”
