Gelling expecting partisan Magic Weekend crowd

Wigan centre Anthony Gelling believes that having a lot of fans who dislike the Warriors in the crowd will add to the atmosphere at St James’ Park this weekend.

Wigan take on Leeds on Saturday at Magic Weekend, and Gelling is expecting an intense and partisan crowd to add to the sense of occasion.

“There are a lot of people who don’t like Wigan, they like to see us lose,” he said, according to Sky Sports.

“It adds to the atmosphere and it is good fun.

“The way we beat them last year, it was kind of similar, they were in good form.

“To beat them you’ve just got to get in their faces, be confrontational for 80 minutes and they get a bit angry, and you get under their skin a bit and they kind of lose their heads.”

Leeds top the League table at the moment, and are four points ahead of Wigan, who were heavily beaten at Catalans Dragons at the weekend.

Gelling believes that a win over the Rhinos could give the Warriors’ season some new impetus.

“We could close that gap on Leeds, because they’re starting to get away at the top,” he added.

“To take two points off them and get two for ourselves will definitely close that gap, and we’ll jump above St Helens.”
