St George-Illawarra Dragonsback rower Tyson Frizell remains committed to playing international rugby league for Wales.

The Wales Rugby League (WRL) have reacted swiftly to the news that Frizzell was included in the Tonga squad for their forthcoming international with Cook Islands.

The WRL have conacted the player, and received assurances that Frizzell remains committed to the Celtic cause.

“We met with Tyson earlier this year when he was in the UK for the World Club Series, and he gave a clear commitment to Wales,” said Bob Wilson, manager of the WRL.

“On seeing the announcement by Tonga we have been in contact with Tyson to check if this was correct. We are delighted to say that the player remains a Welsh International.

“He is a huge talent and his assurances that he is committed to Wales’s push towards the 2017 Rugby League World Cup is a great boost to us all.”

Frizzell is unavailable for this year’s European Championship, but the WRL have been aware of this for some time.
