France coach Laurent Frayssinous admitted his players were ‘disappointed’ with their 64-0 hammering to England, but insists they need to continue playing ever year.

The French were humbled 64-0 against England at the Halliwell Jones Stadium in Warrington on Saturday afternoon.

Frayssinous didn’t hide his disappointment after the game, saying it was a ‘reality check’ for his side.

He said: “My thoughts are a nice and good reality check of where we are.

“The scoreboard is pretty tough, we’ve got a shattered and disappointed dressing room but at the same time it is where we are. It is a learning curve for a few kids.

“What they need to do is play week in, week out, like all the England boys do. At the moment, even though they are young, the England boys are the best in their comp. And us, we’ve got some young players who either play in the French comp, the Championship or play every one or two games in Super League but that’s where we are and that’s the reality.

“We will keep on working, that’s what we talked about in the dressing room. We will keep on working to make sure next time we end the game better next time.”

Laurent Frayssinous: We need to keep playing England

Frayssinous insisted that France need to keep playing England in an annual fixture in order for the French national team to improve.

He added: “I thought the last two years we’ve earned the respect of England, I don’t want England to judge us on that scoreboard tonight. Next time we will definitely be better. That’s where we are, but we will be better next time, I can guarantee you.

“The main point for me is that we need to keep playing France v England every year. Ideally in France, but if it isn’t in France, I’m happy to play in Warrington or wherever.”
